Samuel Butler gave us today’s quote on love: “To live is like to love – all reason is against it, and all healthy instinct is for it.”
Loving is somewhat unreasonable – think of how strong an emotion love is – how much is hurts sometimes to see what we love leave or fade away – the bitter sweetness of having experienced the sunset, or symphony or lovemaking – and even though we know we may experience these things again we also know that we can never experience this exact same thing – and it’s freshness to us – lets do it anyway and not hold back a bit of it.
I also really liked this quote from Teilhard de Chardin who said, “Someday after we have mastered the air, the winds, the tides, and gravity, we will harness for God the energies of love. And then for the second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire.”
